Empty Vessels Make Noise

Empty Vessels Make Noise

So many times in business and life, we talk about communication. What does it mean?  Communication doesn’t always apply to talking.  It relates more to listening.
Listening is learning.  Listening encourages understanding  by hearing the message.  Understanding decreases conflict.

I grew up in a culture where the phrase “empty vessels make noise” was thrown around periodically.  It describes people who talk and talk but say very little worth listening to.  It is the same as a vehicle driving around with empty cans / bottles rolling back and forth making noise.  It is disruptive and completely devoid of wisdom.

Sometimes we become afraid of silence, so we may fill it with empty words. Make it a point to listen today to enhance communication.  Don’t be an empty vessel.  Listening is a great way to show respect.
